The Archive Shirt Collection – The 1970s

The Selector Shirt

We’ve been crafting the best shirts around for over 50 years, and as you can imagine, our archive is full to the brim with iconic designs just waiting to be rediscovered. Each season, we commit to bringing to you re-issued versions of the greatest hits from Ben Sherman’s long and illustrious history. Our vintage flannel shirts have a timeless quality, and by bringing them up to date with contemporary fabrication, Ben Sherman aficionados new and old can enjoy some of our most memorable releases for the first time or all over again.

For our first release, we need some context. Back in the 60s during the first rise of the Ska movement in the UK, a DJ as we would call them today, was affectionately referred to as the Selector. As well as reading better on paper and having a better ring to it than ‘Disc Jockey’, the title of the Selector gives an extra layer of gravitas to the person in charge of the decks, paying due reverence to the Selector’s painstakingly curated box of Ska gems.

Our 70s shirt of the same name is a similarly crafted blend of the finest elements to create a truly memorable shirt. The updated Selector shirt is a faithful recreation of the 70s original, with the engineered gingham - opening out into a stripe to create distinct blocks of pattern and colour - popping as much now as it did then. Constructed from premium cotton in our famous Mod fit, the Selector boasts a three-finger button-down collar creating a neat finish, completed by a straight hem, back box pleat and the tab branded chest pocket you know and love.

As was the tradition back then, each one of our Ben Sherman archive shirts is packaged in its own presentation box, emblazoned with our original logo for added authenticity.

Grab your slice of history before it’s gone.
